چکیده

The deposition of well-adhered thin type of coatings is of great importance in manufacturing and is used in numerous applications. Of particular interest in the biomedical sector is the deposition of hydroxyapatite onto titanium. CoBlast is a novel coating technology used mainly in the deposition of ceramics onto this metal. This is achieved by simultaneously blasting a ceramic particulate (the abrasive) and coating particles (the dopant) at a substrate with the resulting impregnation of the coating particles onto the substrate surface. The goal of this research was to investigate the velocities achieved by the abrasive particles under typical process pressures using a CoBlast nozzle. The velocity measurements were carried out using Particle Image Velocimetry by which method 200μm aluminium oxide powder was investigated at pressures of 3, 4 and 5 bar at variable mass flow rates. Computational Fluid Dynamics using ANSYS-Fluent was used to predict the particle dynamics and results were compared to those obtained by the experiments. It was possible to generate valuable experimental data that provide an initial mean for process characterization and for the design of new and more efficient CoBlast nozzles. © 2015 The Authors. Influence of substrate metal alloy type on the properties of hydroxyapatite coatings deposited using a novel ambient temperature deposition technique.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings are applied widely to enhance the level of osteointegration onto orthopedic implants. Atmospheric plasma spray (APS) is typically used for the deposition of these coatings; however, HA crystalline changes regularly occur during this high-thermal process. This article reports on the evaluation of a novel low-temperature (<47°C) HA deposition technique, called CoBlast...

Comparison between the SBF response of hydroxyapatite coatings deposited using both a plasma-spray and a novel co-incident micro-blasting technique J.N.Barry, D.P.Dowling

This paper reports on the response of hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings, fabricated using two deposition technologies, to immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF). The deposition methods used were: plasma spray, a commercial standard, and CoBlast, a novel low temperature microblast technique. In the case of the latter, HA coatings are deposited by simultaneous blasting HA and abrasive powders concent...

Overview of Direct Numerical Simulation of Particle Entrainment in Turbulent Flows

An overview of removal and re-entrainment of particles in turbulent flows is presented. The procedure for the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equation via a pseudospectral method for simulating the instantaneous fluid velocity field is described. Particle removal mechanisms in turbulent flows in a duct are examined and effects of the near-wall coherent eddies on the parti...

Hydrodynamic Behavior of Particles in a Jet Flow of a Gas Fluidized Bed

Numerous investigations have been devoted towards understanding the hydrodynamics of gas jets in fluidized beds. However, most of them address the problem from  macroscopic point of view, which does not reveal the true behavior in the jet region at the single particle level. The present work aims to understand the jet behavior from a more fundamental level, i.e. the individual particle leve...

A particle swarm optimization algorithm for minimization analysis of cost-sensitive attack graphs

To prevent an exploit, the security analyst must implement a suitable countermeasure. In this paper, we consider cost-sensitive attack graphs (CAGs) for network vulnerability analysis. In these attack graphs, a weight is assigned to each countermeasure to represent the cost of its implementation. There may be multiple countermeasures with different weights for preventing a single exploit. Also,...
